Case Study: Real-time GPS vehicle tracking

Summary: A transportation startup needed to present vehicle locations to users in real-time on a branded map. This was a heavily requested feature, so the company wanted it built in time for a demo with investors. Each vehicle was streaming location data via custom hardware, so I built a service that accepted that data, stored it and made it accessible to other services. Next, I leveraged Google Maps' API to create a custom map that displayed the locations of the company's active vehicles in near real-time. The map included custom vehicle icons, branded vehicle routes marked with pickup and drop-off locations and a custom color scheme. The feature was complete before the investor demo, and the company went on to raise a healthy Series A round of financing.
